Double-Digit Domain Name Registrations

Recently I purchased my tenth first-level domain name (not including ones I had in the past but discontinued), so I thought I'd to a post here to commemorate the occasion.

Video Game Websites

http://www.pcgamereviewsandnews.com/ is, of course, about PC game reviews and news.  I think I want to take this more in the direction of personal thoughts about game development too, now that I'm involved in a view projects.  After struggling on at under 100 visits a day for over a year, I'm now closing in on a regular 200+ visits per day, which is quite pleasing.

http://www.indiegamenews.com/ is about indie games - all sorts of independent games on different systems.  Not greatly happy that it's so reliant on press releases for new information but I don't currently have the time to personally comment about every forthcoming game and gets lots of reviews done - and sadly my attempts to build a team to update the site regularly have continually hit brick walls.  Still it's attained a level or popularity and quite a few indie devs have told me that I've been the only person to get back to them, or one of very few, when they've tried to advertise their new release - so it feels like I'm at least achieving something of my initial aim with this site of helping new indie developers.

http://www.wiigamereviewsandnews.com/ is about - you guessed it - reviews and other news for games on the Nintendo Wii.  Not updated as often as I'd like and not visited very much, it nevertheless continues to be one of my most popular sites in terms of Page Rank and advertiser enquiries - I just don't actually know why!

http://www.retrogamingandemulation.com/ - I'm a child of the 80s, so I have a real fondness for the old 8 and 16-bit games, particularly on the Speccy and Atari ST.  This blog is all about games from the past, emulators, remakes, and just generally anything to do with retro gaming.  Again it's not updated as often as I'd like, but retains a measure of popularity.

Media Websites

http://www.moviereviewsandnews.com/ - although I also include some TV news on this, it's mainly devoted to all things movie-related.  Since after our baby was born I almost never go to the cinema anymore, this isn't updated quite as frequently as before and certainly I post about old movies more than I did.  Also getting some information about independent films to post here.  This is my oldest blog, having started right back in May 2007.

http://www.bookreviewsandnews.com/ - I've always had a love of literature, though to be honest in recent years I've read far less, particularly in the last couple of years.  As with my other sites above the reviews have ended up being supplemented with other news and a few interviews.  I try to keep this one ticking over as I'd hate to see it shrivel up and die!

http://www.startrektngepisodeguide.com/ - exactly what it says on the tin, an episode guide for Star Trek: The Next Generation.  I really should get this finished, but it's been a while now since I watched the last two seasons so I'll probably have to watch them again to write them up...

Game Development Blogs

http://www.troll-song.com/ - after working with a programmer on another game, I started to have ideas about a new series of adventure games based on a type of character seldom seen or developed in games (or fantasy literature in general).  So I contacted him and asked if he'd be up for helping me develop it (fortunately he's a pretty decent artist too!), and so the project was born.  To date we've only got a very early pre-alpha going, but work is at hand to develop this.  I'm quite enthusiastic about what we'll be able to achieve with this game series; to speed up development we're trying to keep a number of things simple without having to sacrifice playability.

http://www.captaindisasterthecomputergame.com/ - now this one is a game series based on my Captain Disaster character who was the star of 11 short stories I wrote several years back.  I'd been wanting to make this into a game / series of games for almost as many years, but for various reasons it never happened.  It IS happening now however, with the pre-alpha (built in under a week) already starting to look very promising.

Finally...

http://www.captaindridesagain.com/ - the site you're on right now.  Sadly this is a prime example of how a websitegoes badly wrong when the creator of it has no clear idea of what he actually wants to do with it.  It was also an experiment in seeing whether it was possible to create a conventional website in Blogger - I guess this was partially successful.
